Cafe hoppers are really spoiled for choice around Upper Thomson Road as there are many wonderful cafes that serve fantastic food. Here at One Man Coffee, the interior is modest, but tasteful. My eyes were immediately drawn to the accent of a Pop culture style menu with bright colours and Ben Day dots.
Seats are limited during lunch so do try to come earlier. The noise builds up quickly in the interior as more people come in either for a take-away or dine-in. Their most popular items on the menu are the Brioche French Toast with Caramelized Banana and Salted Caramel, and the Gashouse Eggs with Bacon Jam.
Tempted by the pretty cakes, I had both the Teh Si cake and the Yuzu cake. Teh Si cake (Have you heard of such a cake before?) is an interesting cake and it’s on the creamier side, with a reasonably light sponge texture in between and speckles of tea leaves embedded within to enhance the taste.
Yuzu cake has a cross mix of lemon, mandarin and grapefruit taste. Yuzu itself is a costly citrus fruit which is said to have originated from China and is now the most popular of all citrus fruits in Japan. One bite into the cake, you will find an absolutely delectable experience that starts with the layer of butter cream mixed with Yuzu juice that slowly makes its way down to the cherries and Yuzu in between. Amazing! If you're looking for a refreshing and zesty dessert, this will be a good choice!
