This cafe is nestled in a tranquil neighbourhood of Toa Payoh. Outside the café, there’s a small playground where old folks hang out together under the shady trees, enjoying the occasional cool breeze. This part of the estate has a variety of old shops and cafe hoppers are also spoilt for choice here as Creamier, Niche, The Daily Press and Frozen are all located just steps away from each other. At Niche Boulangerie, they offer a wide variety of cakes and quiches all done from scratch in the café’s rear kitchen by the owner, Melvin. He takes great pride and spend hours in preparing the ingredients and baking with his assistant. Housewives, retirees and executives are often seen coming through the doors as they recognize the fine quality of cakes, coffee and light snacks sold there.
Seasonal Fruit Medley ($5.90) is somewhat like a tart, aesthetically appealing with a vibrant mix of blueberries and raspberries on the top. The firm almond shell enveloped the delicate vanilla custard and coupled with the hint of sweet and sour from the fruits, this is absolutely delicious!
Niche Tiramisu ($5.90) is a lethal combination of Jamaican Rum, Kahlua, Earl Grey and a little expresso all in the piece of cake. It’s a hot favourite for those who enjoy and appreciate the taste of Earl Grey. The texture is velvety and my partner relished every spoonful.
