Is Kopi luwak an asian or western coffee drink?

Now, kopi luwak originates from Indonesian, so by right it should be considered a local kopi drink.

But, its popularity is really in the west and even in South East Asia, not many kopi drinkers would have heard about it.

So, I wondered if kopi luwak is a local or westerner coffee beverage.
