I watched Black Gold the other day. It is a documentary film about the international coffee trade and its effects on coffee farmers.
Anyway, it was really an eye opener because you see the harsh contrasts in the scenes between the impoverished farmers who grow coffee and the thriving coffee selling companies.
Illy coffee is well known for its high quality roasted beans and they do get their coffee beans from these farmers. However, I was relieved to find out that Illy buys their coffee beans directly from the farmers, thus eliminating any middlemen. Illy was also very warm and supportive of the film.
