How To Prepare Coffee Beans
For Roasting . . .

Will it be worth the extra time and trouble to roast your own coffee?

As far as the benefits of roasting coffee at home are concerned, that varies from person to person. If  freshness and flavor are important to you. Roasting your own beans will give you the best tasting coffee and allows you to control the brewing process, making it much more personal and consistent resulting in great flavor. Additionally, you have the benefit of enjoying the taste of coffee in the proper manner

Another major benefit is that you can easily control the flavor of your coffee when you select the roast level. light and medium and smoky, as well as sweet and complex (dark roast).

The roast also affects the caffeine level In light-roasted beans, the caffeine content is slightly higher. Also, if you want a great coffee flavor, choose a light roast, but if taste isn't a major, then dark roasts is the alternative.

If you want to roast your own beans, how long does it take? Once the green coffee beans are acquired, you will need to take the steps of the roasting process approximately between 20 and 30 minutes to roast between one or two pounds of fresh roasted coffee beans.

The roasting process darkens the coffee beans as they absorb heat. Heating the beans above a certain level of steam causes their fat to emulsify and rise to the top. When the beans reach their boiling point, around 433°F they expand. Put your freshly ground coffee in the warmer so it can percolate.

Using a cast iron pan on any electric or gas stove is fine. The roasting process produces smoke, well-ventilated while doing it is important. Bring the pot to a boil and increase the heat to a rolling boil, stirring the beans.

Making sure your beans are roasting evenly is essential for an even extraction. Continue to stir until your beans have reached your desired level of doneness. You don't want a mix of dark, medium, and light roasts to accumulate over time and cause flavors to become muddy and murky.

Once the desired temperature has been reached, you'll have to wait for the popping or the cracking similar to popcorn.

It takes approximately 24 hours for coffee beans to reach their peak of flavor. Preferably grind your coffee as soon as you remove it from the pot and store it in an opaque, airtight container. You'll be amazed at the unique flavor and fragrance.
