The décor of Stuttgart Blackforest Cafe reminisces Stuttgart’s famous wood-carvings. I had never been to Germany, let alone Stuttgart. From Google, it’s located in South-west Germany, capital of Baden-Wurttemberg state. Wood-carving is a traditional cottage industry in the region and carved ornaments now are produced in substantial numbers as souvenirs for tourists. Cuckoo clocks are a popular example; they have been made in the region since the early 18th century and much of their development occurred there.
This café is very
spacious and kids will have fun walking around and taking in the unique decor
of the interior.
Running through the menu, they have the usual German stuff like pork knuckle, sausages, sauerkraut and mash potatoes etc. Since there’s nothing very special, we ordered the usual pork knuckle and sausages to share. Taste wise, I just found it to be pretty average.
I wanted to stop
ordering more food but my friends insisted that we must have some desserts. I
almost said count me out until friend A said;”hey, you must try this!” I took a
bite of the black forest cake and I was hooked! It’s a pretty dense cake
condensed into about 100gramsI
The chocolate was nicely layered and I could taste the sponge from the cream, but the devil was in the cherry. It is well soaked in Kirsch, and the balance between the chocolate cake, cream, cherries and Kirsch was just right. I had tried Black Forest cakes in some cake shops and it is usually nothing more than chocolate cake, cream and lots of chocolate flakes ( probably u might be like me wondering why is it not called chocolate cake instead!) Stuttgart S-cafe is generous with the liquor here!
The other dessert we ordered was the
bread butter pudding($10). It’s looks really good (aesthetic –wise) and it was
nice too! But my fav is still the BF cake ($12).
If you ever go to this place, try out the Black Forest cake!
