Instant coffee is more green
Now, personally I think filter coffee maker using coffee grounds are more green because they uses lesser machinery and factory space thus less carbon foot print.
But Dr Dave Reay, senior lecturer in carbon management at Edinburgh University , has calculated that filter coffee is responsible for 50 percent more greenhouse gas emissions than its instant coffee.
He says the average cup of black filter coffee is responsible for 125 grams of carbon emissions, but the figure for a regular cup of black instant coffee is around 80g.
One reason is instant coffee is less bulky to transport, thus in the end uses lesser carbon (less energy) to transport.
I only read this only reason, although I wonder if the process of producing instant coffee is more "green" than coffee grounds.
Anyway, this is an interesting fact that I thought coffee lovers might want to know...
