Yes, there is a salt coffee and it is getting very popular with 15 000 cups being sold daily in Taiwan alone.

This is a new concoction by 85 degree bakery cafe, Taiwan largest coffee chain, it is reported that after they introduced salt coffee, their sales per outlet jumped from 350 cups of coffee to 700 cups.

The spokesperson Chung said that the company hit upon the idea of launching salt coffee the trend of using sea-salt in food and cosmetics is growing in Taiwan.

The uniqueness of salt coffee according to the cafe is its ability to bring out the flavor of the coffee. This is due to the nature of the sea salt that opens the taste bud of your tongue.

A cup of salt coffee is served with sea salt on the creamy foam and chilled cream.

It is supposed to give you three tastes, first you get the salty taste from the cold cream foam, then you get the mixed taste of the salty cream foam and hot coffee, lastly you get the aroma of coffee.

While using salt for beverages might seems like a new concept to most of us, some Asians have been using salt to compliment their drinks for decades.

Tibetans for example, drink their tea with salt too.

It might be salt coffee, but their results is definitely very sweet for this 85 degree cafe with many of their customers raving about this drink!
